Job Description

A Robert Half client located in La Grange, IL is seeking a confident and proactive Senior HR Generalist to build and lead the HR function for a family-owned manufacturing company. This role offers the opportunity to create and shape HR processes from the ground up. You’ll be a key partner to leadership, fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented culture and supporting a diverse workforce ranging from entry-level to highly skilled professionals.

This is a highly visible role ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment, enjoys being a one-person HR team (with potential to grow later), and isn’t afraid to bring forward new ideas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment efforts for a variety of roles, from production staff to professional and technical positions
  • Design and implement standardized onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a seamless employee experience
  • Administer employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans
  • Prepare payroll for weekly and biweekly schedules and liaise with outsourced payroll providers to ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • Manage and refine the company’s score-based performance evaluation system for all staff
  • Align employee reviews with compensation adjustments, bonuses, and development plans
  • Partner with managers to identify skill gaps and oversee training and development initiatives, including apprenticeship programs
  • Drive career pathing and upskilling efforts across all departments to support workforce development
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on employee relations matters, conflict resolution, and organizational changes
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Recommend and implement modern HR practices and tools, including exploring HRIS solutions
  • Maintain accurate HR records, reports, and employee files in accordance with legal requirements
  • Develop and update employee handbooks, policies, and procedures to align with company goals and best practices
  • Plan and coordinate employee engagement programs, recognition efforts, and morale-boosting initiatives
  • Be a visible presence on the production floor and in the office to build relationships and foster a positive company culture

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, hands-on setting
  • Degree preferred but not required

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience (sweet spot $85K–$90K)+ bonus potential
