Job Description

The SBA Program Manager will develop and deploy the SBA program at United Fire Group. This role is responsible for actively building and maintaining a profitable mix of new and existing surety business through strong working relationships with the agency force. The individual in this role will use relationship?building skills to expand agency plant and help other underwriters produce SBA surety business. The individual in this role will leverage their strong analytical skills and evaluate new SBA opportunities for acceptability within company risk parameters.

Responsibilities

• Create and deploy SBA Bond Program:
  
  
  • Work with established and new agencies to train and persuade them to use UFG as their surety company of choice.
  • Assist in the creation of marketing materials highlighting the SBA Program.
  • Independently underwrite and process SBA business from submission to bond execution.
  • Make regular agency calls to assess growth and profitability of SBA agents within assigned agency relationships and additional agencies as assigned.
  • Prospect and appoint new quality SBA agents.
  • Set and accomplish KPIs while assisting leaders in territory planning.
  
  
  
• Develop and maintain comprehensive SBA training manual and underwriting guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain process manual for administrative support roles and responsibilities to support SBA compliance.
  
  
  
• Monitor SBA program guidelines and rules for changes in program which could impact our business as well as any changes required to remain in compliance with SBA guidelines for an approved surety carrier.
• Work with claims personnel to create claims resource and process guide for SBA bonds.
• Assist in education of surety underwriting team delivering trainings to support marketing of the SBA Program.
• Provide direction and assistance:
  • Discuss new applications and submissions with other UWs in the team.
  • Develop and train underwriting staff, making sure their actions are in the best interest of UFG.
  • Assist with department planning and goal setting.
  
  
  
• Partner with department leadership on creating budgets, forecasts and other KPIs for the SBA Program.
• Audit Files: May be asked to cross audit files handled by others.
• Ensure UFG Surety unit offers service that is amongst the top in our industry.
• Exhibit ability to generate new submission activity that results in significant growth in accepted new accounts.
• Expanding presence in SBA Program to result in meaningful new submissions and accepted accounts.
• Special projects related to automation, and other interests of the department or company may be assigned.
• Stay abreast of industry information regarding competition, pertinent laws and legal occurrences, underwrite rates, trends, etc., and pass this information on to the department.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• Degree concentration in Business Administration, Economics, Finance or Accounting is preferred.
• Achieved, or working towards, MBA preferred.

Certifications/Designations

• Employees are expected to participate in continuing education throughout their careers.
• Certified or working towards AFSB, CPCU or similar is preferred.

Experience

• 10+ years of underwriting experience required.
• Experience with the SBA Bond Guarantee Program is preferred.

Working Conditions

• General Office Environment or remote home office conditions.
• Occasional travel, including overnight stays.
• Regular work duties may require up to 20% work outside of regular business hours.
