The role you'll contribute:

\n \n\n \n

Performs Direct patient care activities that are developmental and age specific for the population served; Student Nurse Technician is responsible, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Vocational Nurse for the performance of selected nurse's tasks and patient activities. This is done with respect to the team approach and with the assurance of a safe and comfortable environment while recognizing and ensuring patient's rights.

• Performs properly and legibly documents and reports all procedures in accordance with department policy.
\n \n
• Obtains a nursing history. Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior, motor skills and physiological norms of the patient. Assesses for signs of abuse or neglect. Assesses and interprets diagnostic data relative to patient age and condition. Reports abnormalities to RN.
\n \n
• Assists in identifying needs and developing/modifying plan of care. In Surgical Services: selects supplies and equipment according to Doctor Preference Cards (DPC) and needs of patient based on Pre-operative assessment.
\n \n
• Performs treatments according to policy and procedure. Provides patient care appropriate to age, mobility, acuity and culture. Functions appropriately in clinical emergencies. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions. Investigates questionable situations.
\n \n
• Evaluates patients developmental level, identifies increased physical/emotional dependency needs and evaluates availability of support system consistent with the age of the patient served.
\n \n
• Identifies the need for patient teaching and utilizes each opportunity for teaching on a planned or spontaneous basis.
\n \n
• Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Demonstrates accurate documentation and monitoring of activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department.
\n \n
• Follows CDC isolation guidelines, appropriately uses PPE, performs handwashing according to policy and enforces safety regulations. Strictly adheres to all infection control practices and diligently follows aseptic technique. Takes immediate corrective action for breaks in technique.
\n \n
• Exhibits desire to learn and upgrade nursing skills. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

\n \n\n \n\n

\n
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
\n \n
• Proof of continued enrollment in an ASN or BSN accredited professional nursing program, with no break in enrollment to exceed 1 year
\n \n
• Basic Life Support Certification
\n \n\n \n\n

\n

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

\n \n\n \n\n

\n
• Successfully completed first semester of an ASN or BSN accredited professional nursing program or Currently enrolled in final semester of an accredited LVN program
\n \n\n \n\n
