Base pay range

$35.00/hr - $55.00/hr

Matter is building advanced geospatial AI and sensing technologies to understand our planet in unprecedented ways. We operate systems from Earth's orbit to the ground, creating planetary data that drives realworld impact.

About the Role

Matter is seeking a skilled drone operator to capture highquality aerial imagery and data across the greater Los Angeles area (with possible ability to travel within the US). This is a handson, hourly position (parttofulltime) focused on executing flight missions, collecting quality data, and ensuring safe, compliant operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct drone flights to collect imagery and sensor data per mission specifications
• Perform preflight inspections and equipment checks
• Execute flight plans safely and efficiently in various environments
• Ensure data quality and completeness before leaving field sites
• Maintain flight logs and mission documentation
• Coordinate with internal teams on scheduling and data delivery
• Use and debug commercial offtheshelf (COTS) drone and imaging software to ensure smooth operations
• Manage FAA Part 107 waiver applications (e.g., altitude waivers) as needed
• Perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
• Adapt to changing weather conditions and mission requirements

Qualifications

Required

• 1+ years handson drone operation experience
• Demonstrated ability to capture highquality aerial imagery
• Experience using and troubleshooting COTS drone and imaging software
• Familiarity with FAA Part 107 waiver procedures and application process
• Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
• Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Comfortable with basic technology and file management

Preferred

• Experience with DJI enterprise platforms
• Background in mapping, surveying, or geospatial data collection
• Familiarity with mission planning software
• Experience in commercial or industrial drone operations
• Ability to travel occasionally within the US for imaging missions

Location

Greater Los Angeles area. Must be available for fieldwork throughout LA County and surrounding regions. Some early morning or weekend work may be required based on mission needs.

• A lawful permanent resident (green card holder)
• Eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State

Compensation

Competitive hourly rate based on experience.
