Job Description

Prime Time House

For over 35 years, Prime Time House (PTH) has been providing individuals in Northwestern Connecticut with mental illness a supportive environment that helps them lead independent and productive lives and reach their highest potential.

Our Clubhouse program offers people who have mental illness hope and opportunity to achieve their full potential. Much more than simply a program or a social service, the Clubhouse is a community of people working together to achieve a common goal. We have "members", not patients or clients, and focus on one's strengths, not a diagnosis or illness. During participation, members gain access to opportunities to rejoin the worlds of employment, education, and friendships, and to the services and support they need to continue their recovery.

The Clubhouse provides a restorative environment for people whose lives have been severely disrupted because of their mental illness. Recovery is promoted through peer support. This program employs rehabilitation counselors who support individuals through all phases of mental health recovery. Services are provided by working side by side with our participants, encouraging involvement in the work of the day, which helps enhance each individual’s social, employment, and educational goals.

Mental Health Advocate / Engagement Specialist

Prime Time House is hiring a full-time Rehabilitation Counselor for our Clubhouse program.

In a restorative environment, the Rehabilitation Counselor supports individuals through all phases of mental health recovery. Services are provided by working side-by-side with program participants, engaging and encouraging involvement in the work of the day and various holistic wellness activities to enhance the individual’s social, employment, and educational goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Generating member interest and participation in all aspects of the work-ordered day.
  • Helping members set and achieve personal, career, and wellness goals.
  • Referring members to community resources to promote well-being, independence, and personal satisfaction.
  • Encouraging peer-to-peer relationships and interaction among the members.

  • Organize and plan lunch at least one day per week.
  • Transporting members to and from Clubhouse in agency van.
  • Facilitating holistic wellness and multicultural activities.
  • Collaborating with members to update Clubhouse social media, activity calendars, and electronic signage as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Interested candidates should possess an understanding of serious mental illness, have a passion for excellence, a positive attitude, and enjoy multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Candidates should possess the ability to connect members to existing community resources for case management and crisis intervention, communicate effectively with treatment teams, and simultaneously maintain healthy boundaries to not over-step into those roles.
  • Candidates are culturally and trauma responsive, gender affirming, recovery oriented, person-centered, situationally aware, open-minded, have excellent communication skills, a sense of humor, are growth oriented, solution focused and patient.
  • Candidates should have skills, experience and passion for building positive relationships with others, particularly those in underserved, disadvantaged, marginalized and vulnerable populations.
  • A driver’s license is required, and the candidate will need to complete agency driving training to provide transportation to participants in an agency van.
  • Candidate must be comfortable preparing lunch in a commercial kitchen, while engaging members in the process.
  • Excellent communication skills, and comfort working with technology including MS Office, and social media. Is also comfortable learning new technology and programs.
  • A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field is preferred. Previous experience working with individuals who live with serious mental illness and connecting individuals with community resources will be considered in lieu of education on a commensurate basis.
