The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities

General Purpose: Supervises and manages imaging technical and support staff. Works closely and in concert with IS Nursing, Clerical, IT, Faculty and staff to achieve maximum productivity with efficient and safe patient throughput while maintaining optimal customer and patient/family satisfaction.

Supervision And Direction Exercised: Provides management and on-site direct supervision of technical staff as well as supervision of the daily functioning of the Cath Lab, which includes nursing staff, with support from Pediatric Nursing Leadership. Also serves as an expert resource for all other staff (nursing, physicians) for all technical and patient care related issues pertaining to catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.

Essential Functions

Administrative:

  • Provides management and on-site direct supervision of technical staff. Also serves as an expert resource for all other staff (nursing, physicians) for all technical and patient care related issues pertaining to catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.
  • Assists the catheterization lab director on decisions related to recruitment, hiring, transfers, promotions, discipline and termination in accordance with UR policies.
  • Establishes the daily schedule for the laboratory, including outpatient and inpatient scheduling. Is involved in direct contact with families regarding scheduling and pre-procedural testing.
  • Coordinates obtaining prior authorization from payors for procedures, as required.
  • Coordinates the daily clinical operation of the laboratory. Plans work schedules and allocates staff for routine daily staffing and after hours on call needs.
  • Maintains inventory while reducing costs and identifying methods to improve inventory management and reducing inventory levels. Guides subordinates in appropriate and economical use of supplies, equipment and personnel. May recommend, initiate or approve requisition of equipment and supplies, encourages proper utilization of same to avoid waste.
  • Implements and enforces strict Quality Control over assigned section or units. Ensures all equipment is properly maintained and inspected per hospital policy. Coordinates inspections with Clinical Engineering, equipment vendors, and Radiation Safety.
  • Maintains regulatory compliance with radiation safety as it pertains to hospital/organizational policy. Management of Insta-Dose Radiation badge monitoring system.
  • Assists the lab director with writing and updating program policies and procedures.
  • Develops, updates and implements technical training for staff on protocols, procedures, applications and hardware. Assesses competencies and determines readiness for independent implementation of responsibilities such as call coverage, monitoring role (during Cath procedures), and case scrubbing.
  • Develops, updates and implements technical training for Cath Lab nurses on protocols, procedures, applications and hardware. Responsible for educating/teaching and evaluating technical and professional competencies for Cath Lab nurses. Will work in concert with GCH Nursing Leadership for any additional supports, resources, and review of training for nursing competencies.
  • Develops and maintains staff competencies in accordance with URMC and JCAHO standards
  • Performs duties of a supervisor or a clinical technologist as needed.
  • Communicates and occasionally confers with director(s) and medical staff concerning studies.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in his/her respective field of pediatric and congenital cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology. Assists the laboratory director in formulating the value analysis justification when acquiring new equipment.
  • Conducts Personnel Performance reviews. Evaluates performance of personnel for which he/she has direct responsibility in accordance with established format. Conducts Evaluation Interviews.

Clinical:

  • Prepares room prior to patient arrival to include sterile procedural tray set up- obtaining necessary equipment (catheters, guide wires, devices). Set up of imaging system, automatic contrast injector and transducer systems and electrophysiology systems. Serves as the primary liaison between the laboratory and other pertinent services (including but not limited to anesthesia, cardiac surgery, critical care, adult interventional cardiology and electrophysiology) to facilitate patient care.
  • Responsible for sterile draping and procedural set up of patient. Scrubs and assists physicians during procedures. Circulates room as needed.
  • Operates radiography equipment: including system set-up, patient positioning and imaging during procedures.
  • Maintains exceptional sterile technique skills required for laboratory function.
  • Super User of blood gas analyzers, activated clotting time (ACT) and oximetry (AVOX) clinical analysis systems. Responsible for weekly/monthly QA/QC of patient testing systems. Maintains excellent working knowledge of radiofrequency ablations systems, perforation system, ultrasound (Transesophageal and Intracardiac) temporary pacemakers and defibrillator. Clinical information systems to include; Epic, Cupid, and PedCath.
  • Directly involved in procedural documentation, billing, patient record keeping for devices and implants.
  • Participates in overnight and weekend call equally with other technical staff (on average, expect to take call every 3rd night)
  • Maintains status for New York State licensure

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, School of Radiologic Technology, Diagnostic US, and Nuclear Medicine or like Diagnostic Program required.
  • NYS licensure (if applicable) and ARRT certification in one of the following: Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Diagnostic US or MRI required
  • 5-7 years of clinical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • NYS licensure (if applicable) and ARRT certification in one of the following: Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Diagnostic US or MRI required.
