Seeking an outpatient Primary Care/Internal Medicine Physician to provide patient-centered primary care for veterans at the New Mexico VA outpatient clinic in Gallup. Responsibilities include developing individualized care plans, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and teaching/mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows through the University of New Mexico affiliation. The New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS) includes an outpatient clinic in Gallup that serves as a cornerstone of the community's healthcare. NMVAHCS provides comprehensive, innovative care to our nation's Veterans, offering cutting-edge research and robust educational programs through its partnership with the University of New Mexico. This healthcare system is dedicated to fostering excellence in patient care and professional growth, making it an outstanding environment for medical professionals to thrive.

Major Duties of the Position:

  • Provide quality service in our progressive, innovative health care system for the veteran outpatient primary care population.
  • Deliver patient-centered primary care services in an outpatient setting.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans that address the specific health and lifestyle needs of patients.
  • Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows, contributing to educational development programs affiliated with the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to patient care, teaching, and research, and be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Department of Medicine at the University of New Mexico.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive, holistic care for outpatient primary care patients.

Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Highly qualified individuals may be eligible for a recruitment/relocation incentive in accordance with agency policy. To receive consideration for an incentive, the selectee must be among the best qualified and meet the criteria established in the VA Handbook 5007 Part VI Chapter 2. Service agreement required.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
  • Paid Time Off: days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5-day paid absence for CME)
  • Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
  • Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
  • Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
  • CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
  • Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
  • Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting
