Rise Academy is the East End’s fully-accredited, private, Christian high school. Rise Academy is a nonprofit organization serving students and families in Richmond’s East End. Together with families, neighbors, and community partners, Rise Academy is creating a world where students have access to excellent and equitable learning opportunities. 

Since 2003, we’ve partnered with students and families in Richmond’s East End to create access to educational opportunities. Formerly Church Hill Activities & Tutoring (CHAT), we began with a mission to provide learning environments that cultivate students’ God-given potential. That vision has grown into Rise Academy, a thriving fully accredited high school for students in grades 9–12.

Rise Academy is dedicated to fostering authentic educational experiences that expand students' horizons. We believe every student deserves access to a robust academic environment that prepares them for their next steps in life. By partnering with families, we care holistically for each student, nurturing their academic and social-emotional growth within our small school environment. Through our after school program, we ensure the community’s youngest learners–no matter the school they attend–have safe, creative, and enriching out-of-school adventures.

The High School History Teacher will be responsible for designing and implementing engaging, standards-based lessons in U.S. and/or World History. The teacher will encourage critical thinking, historical inquiry, and a deep understanding of the forces that shape our world—past and present.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach multiple sections of History courses, which may include U.S. History, World History, Civics, or electives.
• Guides the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum goals and within the content of these goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects with the ability to communicate these objectives effectively to students.
• Design lessons that promote active learning and the development of analytical skills.
• Incorporate various instructional strategies, including the use of primary sources, project-based learning, and technology.
• Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and Rise Academy. Assists in designing, upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Rise Academy Administrative Policies.
• Maintain a positive, inclusive, and orderly classroom environment.
• Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents.
• Regularly assess student progress and provide meaningful feedback.
• Collaborate with colleagues to enhance curriculum and student support.
• Participate in school events, professional development, and community-building activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in History, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

• Valid teaching certification (or working toward certification).
• At least two years of teaching experience at the high school level preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• A passion for history and for helping students grow as informed, thoughtful citizens.
