Interacts directly with pediatric patients, families and other health team members and facilitates age-appropriate interactions and activities to help make the health care experience easier for patients and families. Reduces patient and family distress, increases effective patient and family coping, fosters patient independence, and promotes optimum development. Provides supervision to volunteers, child life pre-internship students and child life assistants. This is a PRN position to help cover / fill Child Life shifts. Must have availability Sunday – Saturday, AND ALL shifts between 6:00am - 12:30am. This includes covering shifts for all departments. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, documentation of a successfully completed 600-hour internship supervised by a Child Life Specialist, Child Life Certification from Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) or eligibility to obtain certification within 15 months of hire, experience with pediatric patients in medical, hospital or behavioral health settings, and experience in Child Life Core Competencies. Essential functions include assessing, prioritizing, and documenting pediatric patient and family care, developing and evaluating pediatric patient and family centered health care plans, providing developmentally appropriate education and support, participating in training and supervision of new hires and volunteers, providing education for staff, assisting with community outreach, and adhering to ACLP Child Life Code of Ethics. Preferred qualifications include a Master's Degree, Registered Behavior Technician or Behavioral Health Experience, experience with Autism and related disabilities, and Spanish speaking. Physical requirements include frequent verbal communication, ability to see and read information, manual dexterity, lifting and transferring patients, and standing for extended periods.
